Vale de Milho Golf - Intro to our PRO (some pictures below the text):

Introduction

Jos den Hartog is golf professional at Vale de Milho Golf. His company is called Golfschool Up & Down and he operates this together with his wife Andrea. Jos and Andrea are both Dutch and the couple moved to Portugal early in 2010.  Jos gives lessons in English, German en Dutch. This is what they say about their philosophy:

Philosophy

“Golf School Up & Down believes that everyone can learn to play golf. We have proven this over the last 6 years with participants aged 5 years to the oldest starter of 76 years old. In addition, Jos had several physically disabled people under his care. They enjoyed taking the lessons and all of them learned and improved (or even picked up the sport). In short, golf is for life and for all!

The three pillars on which our lessons are based are: Professional, Pleasure and Positive. We believe that people can learn best when they have fun and when they practise their hobby in a relaxed manner. The professionalism of our lessons is reflected in our whole approach. This applies also to the use of the materials and methods in the lessons. These include the Eight Step Swing by Jim McLean, Tour Tempo by John Novosel® and youth classes according to the NGF-structure 'Playful Learning'. In addition, behind the structure of all of our courses is our philosophy and behind every lesson is a thought.

At Golf School Up & Down you are trained to be a golfer. You will experience that with your improved game and with your increased pleasure, the results improve naturally. Positive feedback and a positive attitude of your golf professional contribute of course to a very large extent!”

Background

Jos den Hartog is golf professional since 2004. The first years as a pro Jos worked at various locations where he was hired to give lessons, clinics and courses. In late 2006 he started at Golf Course 'De Hildenberg' in Appelscha, where his first golf school 'WeekendjeGolf' was based. The golf school ran very well, but in early 2010 Jos had the chance to start a golf school in Portugal. The decision was quickly made.

Andrea den Hartog does most of the work behind the scenes. When you send a message through contact, you want to book a course or lesson, you have to do with her. She also keeps the home front in the Netherlands posted through Twitter.

Before Jos & Andrea started their first golf school, they were both working as business administrators in large companies and Andrea later as well as primary school teacher. Perhaps you know us from KPN, CMG or primary schools in Wassenaar.

April 30 is for all Dutch people a special day: They celebrate their Queens Birthday. Jos and Andrea, being Dutch, organised at VDM for all people an occasion to taste a Dutch Treat: A Flag-Competition, interrupted by 'Oranjebitter', rounded off by 'Bitterballen' and closed in the clubhouse with prize-giving over a pleasing lunch in Dutch Style cooked by Andrew and Donna.
And... Prizes for 'Best-in-style' !!

Valentine's Scramble & High Tea - Vale de Milho
The 14th of February was an unusual Algarvian day. We didn't see much of the sun and it even rained. To be honest it rained all day, except ... when we played our Valentine's Scramble. Nine holes were played in Valentine Couples and they all did their very best. After two hours og playing and debating over best balls a High Tea was served in the Club House: all sorts of teas in different tea pots accompanied by an assortment of sandwiches, finger fancy cakes and much more on lovely set tables. It looked fantastic and it tasted even better.

Winners were: Wim and Jolanda (32 strokes).
Runners up were: Henk and Rosemary (33 strokes).

Night Golf - Vale de Milho

Sunday January 16th, Vale de Milho Golf Carvoeiro, a clear and nice cool evening. Five flights tee-off to play 5 slightly lit holes with illuminated golf balls. The starter tells a small story about every player just before they tee-off. In the clear cool night you can hear the laughter for miles. As soon as all the flights are playing it seems like the sky is filled with fireworks. Red, blue, green and white illuminated balls colour the night sky. Distraction is a well known enemy of golfers and although distraction is reduced during night play, few golfers don't benefit. They can't read the greens and some of them feel a bit disorientated. Nevertheless, it's FUN! When the group left the club house, they just had hot chocolate and an 'oliebol' and when they return the 'Frango Piri Piri' buffet is ready. We have a fabulous dinner with almost 30 people and just after dinner there is the PRIZE GIVING (sponsored by Carvoeiro Golf Shop). Five nationalities participated in our Night Golf Event and two of them share the prizes:
